There is currently no official viewing area at Farnborough. However there are several public places round the airport, none of which are very close to the parked aircraft. These are detailed below.
RAE Road/ The Swan pub, right on the end of runway 24,and a favorite during the airshow. This is next to the FAST museum . From the dead end road that runs down the side of the pub can be seen some of the ramp. Photos can be had of aircraft landing on 24 but it is difficult to get decent shots. It is better to walk to the end of this road and then turn left and walk towards the hotel. This spot is accessible by public transport using the Stagecoach route 1 from Camberley to Aldershot via Farnborough town center, get off at Farnborough college. It is around a 20 minuite walk from the railway station to here.
Housing area/internal road in from of the Aviator : By foot follow the directions above and turn left out the end of RAE Road. A number of new houses has been built on the old Queens gate site and these are connected by a public road, although this road does have double yellow lines along its length there are several areas where you can pull in . You can then walk the length of the fence and have great views of the Gulfstream ramp and the end of runway 25. But beware the end of this road, past the 'black shed', is part of the office park and is a private road, with private security.
Eelmoor Bridge,on the end of runway 06, this gives the best overall view of the field. Good views of the runway and aircraft parked in the hangar area. This road also gives access to the AAIB dump.It is very difficult to make anything out in the dump compound, due to the poor condition of the wrecks and a new fence. Those landing on 24 tend to turn off short, but 06 movements are easily seen. Although the aircraft will be along way away but much of the main ramp can be seen.
NOTE: The road is now closed past the AAIB so is no longer a through road
BAESYSTEMS office park. This PRIVATE estate offers very good views by following the road through the estate until a right turn just before the end and this will take you adjacent to the runway. Good views of Delta parking but no good for photos due fences. If using this area please be considerate to the business here by not parking in their spaces. Our presence is genrally tolerated unless they ahve nowhere to park.
Costco. The costco car park is a good place to park and walk to where the new departures entrance by Costa Coffee. Particually good in winter before the vegetation grows. This is the closest view of the ramp either side of the Airport HQ building.
Local facilities: As stated the Aviator hotel is very much out of bounds but their (very expensive) rooms do give a good view of the airport. There are plenty of shops and some restaurants a short distance away in North Camp or in Farnborough
Town center. There are large supermarkets in the town or at Morrisons in Southwood on the road from M3 Jcn 4a.
